Anywayr wrote this. We make a group trip planner, so we have tried to be fair and say where the others are better.
"AI trip planner" now covers very different products. Some build an itinerary for you. Some keep your bookings tidy. Some are a shared map. This page compares six of them on the things that matter when you are choosing, and says plainly where each one beats Anywayr.
The short answer
- Anywayr: best when you are starting from a blank page with a group and want a draft itinerary, votes on stays and a cost record in one place.
- Wanderlog: best for a shared, map-based itinerary that everyone edits together, with apps on iOS and Android.
- Mindtrip: best for a personal assistant that remembers how you like to travel and says you can book flights, stays and restaurants through it.
- Layla: best if you want AI to draft the trip and a human travel expert available to plan and book it.
- TripIt: best for organizing bookings you already made, with flight alerts on its paid plan. Its pages do not describe generating an itinerary.
- Stippl: best for a free all-in-one planner with a budget tracker, offline use and apps, with an optional Pro tier.
We do not rank them. A ranking would depend on what you are planning, and we are one of the six.

"Not stated on the pages we checked" means we did not find it on the pages above. It does not mean the product lacks it. Prices are as each product showed them on 30 Sep 2026 and can change. Wanderlog shows no price on its own site pages we could read, so its prices come from its App Store listing, where more than one monthly price is listed. Layla's App Store page says to check the current price in the app.
What each one is mainly for
Anywayr
You give Anywayr a destination, dates, travelers, budget and interests, and it builds a day-by-day group itinerary covering neighborhoods, dining, activities, transport and stays. Planning is free. You invite friends with a link, the group can vote on stays and rental cars, and you can record shared costs and see who owes what. Settling up happens through Venmo or Cash App links, and the money moves in those apps.
On booking, we are specific because it is easy to overstate. Anywayr offers its own checkout for some hotels and for flights. Vacation rentals (VRBO first, Airbnb as a fallback), Booking.com hotels and activities are links to the partner, so you finish on their site, and Anywayr may earn a commission from those links. Hotel and flight search work without starting a trip. A text assistant is also available at (646) 302-8619, and there is a connector that lets Claude, and ChatGPT in developer mode, plan and search using your Anywayr account. See https://anywayr.com/connectors. Anywayr is a website that works on a phone. It does not claim a store app.
Wanderlog
Wanderlog calls itself a "free vacation planner and itinerary app". Its strength is the shared plan: trip mates join by email or link, everyone edits in real time, and each place sits on a Google Maps based map. It also has an AI planner that "auto-fill[s] your days" with well-reviewed suggestions, budgeting with bill splitting, and reservation import from forwarded email. Apps are on iOS and Android. [1]
Mindtrip
Mindtrip describes "your personal travel assistant", one that learns your preferences and watches for things like price drops. It covers stays, flights, eats, experiences, events and trips, and says you can book flights, stays and restaurants through it. Its terms say reservations are made with third-party Booking Partners. The App Store listing describes inviting friends into group chats and editable itineraries. The listing shows Free and iPhone only. [2] For a closer look, see Anywayr vs Mindtrip.
Layla
Layla describes itself as an AI travel agent. You share dates, destinations, budget and style and it builds a day-by-day plan using live pricing and availability, and it says human travel experts can plan, book and manage a trip from start to finish. It says it specializes in multi-city itineraries and road trips. [3] For more, see our Layla review and alternative.
TripIt
TripIt does something different. You forward confirmation emails to plans@tripit.com and it builds an itinerary from what you have already booked. TripIt Pro adds real-time flight alerts, fare and seat tracking, check-in reminders, airport maps and Inner Circle sharing. [4] It does not describe generating a trip for you, so it is a companion to the others more than a rival. Plenty of people use it alongside a planner.
Stippl
Stippl calls itself a free AI travel planner. Its site describes a day-by-day itinerary, a budget tracker that splits costs with your travel group, packing lists, document storage, a journal and eSIMs, and a web app with no install. Its App Store page lists the AI planner under Pro, so check which tier includes it. It lists iOS, Android and web. [5]
Group planning, in more detail
A group trip needs three things settled: the plan, where to stay, and who paid what.
Shared editing. Wanderlog describes real-time collaboration "like Google Docs", with edit or view permissions. [1] Mindtrip and Stippl describe group features too. We do not claim real-time shared editing for Anywayr. It builds a draft and lets the group react to it.
Decisions. Anywayr lets the group vote on stays and rental cars. We did not find voting described on the other products' pages we read, which is not the same as saying they lack it.
Money. Wanderlog, Stippl and Anywayr all describe splitting costs. Wanderlog's budgeting lets you track expenses and split bills among travelers. Stippl's budget tracker splits costs with your travel crew. Anywayr records shared costs and shows who owes what, with Venmo and Cash App links to settle. For a direct comparison on groups, see Anywayr vs Wanderlog.
Booking: in the app, or at a partner
This row needs care. "Book" can mean an in-app checkout where you pay the product, or a link that sends you to a partner.
- Anywayr: own checkout for some hotels and flights. Rentals, Booking.com hotels and activities link to the partner.
- Mindtrip: says you can book through it, and its terms say those reservations are made with third-party Booking Partners.
- Wanderlog: says you can "book a place to stay in the app". We did not confirm on its pages how checkout works or who you pay.
- Layla: says human experts can make bookings. We did not find an in-app checkout described.
- TripIt and Stippl: organize or save bookings rather than selling them, going by the pages we read.
Whatever the tool, expect to finish some bookings on a partner's site, and check the price at checkout.
AI help, and using an assistant you already have
Most of these tools put AI inside their own app. Layla's chat is the clearest example, and Mindtrip's assistant remembers your preferences between trips. Wanderlog's AI is a helper inside a plan you own.
The other route is an assistant you already use. Anywayr's connector lets Claude, Claude Code, VS Code and Codex CLI use your Anywayr account to plan trips, search hotels and flights, get quotes and reach a checkout link. ChatGPT works in developer mode only, and other assistants are listed as coming soon. We have not described this for the other five because we did not find it on their pages. See https://anywayr.com/connectors. If you are weighing a general chatbot against a dedicated planner, read what about just using ChatGPT?
Best for
Anywayr is best for a group that has a rough idea of where and when but not the plan. You get a first draft quickly, vote on where to stay and keep a cost record.
Wanderlog is best for a group that already has ideas. Live shared editing, maps, offline access and email import are its strengths.
Mindtrip is best for someone who wants one assistant for flights, stays and restaurants, and who likes booking in the same place.
Layla is best for someone who wants AI to do the drafting and a human expert as a fallback for a complicated trip.
TripIt is best for anyone with bookings spread across email who wants them in one itinerary, plus flight alerts on Pro.
Stippl is best for someone who wants a free all-in-one planner with a budget tracker, a journal and apps on several platforms.
Where the others beat Anywayr
- Wanderlog: real-time shared editing, a map-first view, offline access, reservation import, iOS and Android apps. Anywayr is a website.
- Mindtrip: a single assistant that remembers your preferences and says you can book flights, stays and restaurants through it. Anywayr's rentals and activities still link out.
- Layla: human travel experts who can plan and book. We do not claim a human expert service for Anywayr.
- TripIt: importing confirmations from email and Pro flight alerts, fare tracking and airport tools. We do not claim these for Anywayr.
- Stippl: offline use, a journal, packing lists and apps on iOS and Android, none of which we claim for Anywayr.
Which should you pick?
- Starting from nothing with friends and want votes and a cost record: Anywayr.
- Group already has a plan and wants a shared map: Wanderlog.
- One assistant that books across flights, stays and restaurants: Mindtrip.
- AI draft with a human expert behind it: Layla.
- Bookings already made and scattered in email: TripIt.
- Free, all-in-one, with apps: Stippl.
- You prefer your own AI assistant: try the Anywayr connector, or see our ChatGPT page.
These tools also mix well. A common setup is to draft in one, keep reservations in another and split costs in whichever your group already uses.
