The short answer
ChatGPT is good at the early part of a trip: picking a place, sketching the days, answering questions about neighbourhoods and weather. On its own it cannot see live hotel rooms or airline seats, so a price it gives you is an estimate to check.
Add the Anywayr connector and the same chat can save a real trip, search hotels and flights for your dates, get an exact quote and hand you a link to Anywayr's checkout page, where you pay.
In ChatGPT, Anywayr works through developer mode today. It is not in ChatGPT's plugin directory yet; a listing is in review. Steps to add Anywayr to ChatGPT.

What a conversation looks like
Say you start with: "Two couples, a week in Portugal in May, flying from New York, around $2,000 each."
Without the connector, ChatGPT suggests a route, explains it and gives rough costs. For a lot of people that is the useful part, and it costs nothing extra.
With Anywayr switched on for the chat, you can keep going:
- "Plan Lisbon for May 3 to 10 for four adults." ChatGPT asks Anywayr to save the trip and gives you its link straight away. The itinerary keeps building on Anywayr after that.
- "Find hotels in Lisbon for those dates, two adults, under $250 a night." Results come back as a short list with prices in US dollars, which you can ask ChatGPT to narrow down.
- "Compare direct flights from New York to Lisbon on May 3 for two adults in economy." ChatGPT searches Anywayr's airline suppliers for that exact route, date and cabin.
- "Get me a quote for the second hotel." Anywayr returns an exact total and the cancellation terms. The quote expires, so you are not paying an old price.
- "Send me the checkout." ChatGPT gives you a link to Anywayr's checkout page, where you check the room, the total and the terms, and pay.
ChatGPT may ask your permission before it calls an Anywayr tool. That is ChatGPT's own safety step, and you can say no.
What is different from Anywayr in Claude
The connector is the same, but booking works differently.
- ChatGPT is checkout-link only. Every booking finishes on Anywayr's checkout page. ChatGPT never takes a payment.
- In Claude you have one extra option. Claude, VS Code and Codex can be allowed to book with the card saved on your Anywayr account. It is off by default, covers only fully refundable bookings and stays within a limit you set. If you want that, see planning a trip in Claude.
- Finding it. In Claude, Anywayr is listed in the Connectors directory with the Community label. In ChatGPT you add it by address in developer mode while the directory listing is in review.
Where ChatGPT on its own, or another app, is enough
- Early ideas. If you are still choosing between three cities, you do not need live prices yet.
- Questions about a place. What to pack, which area suits a family, how to get in from the airport. ChatGPT answers these without a connector.
- One-click apps in the directory. Expedia and Booking.com have apps in ChatGPT that you can add without developer mode. Expedia shows hotels and flights and sends you to Expedia to book. Booking.com shows stays and, since May 2026, rental cars, and you finish on Booking.com. If you just want to browse, they are quicker to set up than Anywayr.
- Trips you will book with points. If you have airline or hotel points to spend, plan in ChatGPT and book with the loyalty program.
Where Anywayr adds the most
- A trip that lasts beyond the chat. Anywayr saves the trip to your account with a link you can reopen on anywayr.com.
- More than one traveler. You share the trip page. Friends join, vote on the stays and plans, and Anywayr tracks shared costs and who owes whom, with Venmo and Cash App links to settle up.
- An exact number before you commit. The quote is the final total, with the cancellation terms beside it.
- Control. On the Anywayr connect screen you choose what ChatGPT may do, and you can approve less than it asks for. You can disconnect ChatGPT at any time in your Anywayr profile, under Connected apps.
The honest limits
- Prices are in US dollars only.
- Hotel searches cover one room at a time, up to 8 adults, and children need their real ages.
- Flight searches cover up to 9 passengers.
- Whether you see developer mode depends on your ChatGPT plan and, on a work or school workspace, on your admin. OpenAI's own guide now describes this as adding a custom MCP server from the Plugins page.
- Anywayr does not offer rental cars through its connector.
Add it
- In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Security and login, and switch on Developer mode.
- Go to chatgpt.com/plugins and choose the plus button to add a plugin from a server address.
- Paste
https://anywayr.com/mcp. - Sign in to Anywayr and approve what ChatGPT may do.
- Start a new chat and switch Anywayr on for it.
