Anywayr wrote this. We make a group trip planner, so we have tried to be fair and say where the others are better.
The short answer
- Pick Wanderlog if your group already has ideas and wants a shared, map-based itinerary that everyone edits together, with reservations imported from email and expense tracking built in.
- Pick Anywayr if you are starting from a blank page and want a first-draft group itinerary built for you from dates, budget and interests, then a place to compare stays, vote with the group and split costs.
- Use both if you like: build a first draft in Anywayr, then keep whatever else you need in the tool your group already uses.

How each tool handles a group
Wanderlog: a shared document with a map
Wanderlog describes group planning this way: add your tripmates by email or by sharing a link, and "everyone can collaborate in real-time", with permissions so people can either edit or only view. Every place you add is pinned on a Google Maps based map, and you can drag items to reorder them. [2]
It also leans into keeping a trip in one place. You can forward flight and hotel confirmation emails, or connect Gmail, and the booking is added to your plan. [1][2] The App Store listing says Pro adds exporting a trip to Google Maps and linking a Gmail account. [2]
If your group argues about order, timing and travel between stops, this is the tool built around that.
Anywayr: a first draft, then a group decision
Anywayr starts one step earlier. You give it a destination, dates, travelers, budget and interests, and it builds a day-by-day group itinerary covering neighborhoods, dining, activities, transport and stays. Planning is free. [5]
From there you invite friends with a link and the group can vote on stays and rental cars. Anywayr does not claim voting on activities or flights. The text assistant at (646) 302-8619 can also be added to a group chat, which suits groups who plan in iMessage.
Money: splitting costs
Both tools handle the awkward part of group travel, working out who owes whom.
Wanderlog says you can set a budget for yourself or a group, split a bill with other people, keep a record of who paid for what and how much everyone owes, and settle debts between tripmates. [2] Its AI trip planner page also mentions assigning tripmates to your expenses. [3]
Anywayr lets you record shared costs, see who owes what, and settle up through Venmo or Cash App links. The money moves in those apps, not inside Anywayr.
If cost tracking is the main job, both cover the basics of recording costs and working out who owes whom.
Booking
This is where the two differ most in approach.
Anywayr offers its own checkout for some hotels, you can search hotels without creating a trip, and flight search needs no account. Vacation rentals (VRBO first, Airbnb as a fallback), Booking.com hotels and activities are links to the partner, so you book on their site. When you book through one of those links Anywayr may receive a commission.
Wanderlog says you can "book a place to stay in the app" and that it gathers both hotel and Airbnb options. [4] We did not confirm on Wanderlog's site how checkout works or who you pay, so check that before you rely on it. For flights, its pages describe importing reservations and live flight status rather than booking. [1][4]
Either way, expect to finish some bookings on a partner's site.
AI help
Wanderlog's AI trip planner page says it can "auto-fill your days with suggestions of the top user-reviewed destinations" using Tripadvisor and Google reviews, and offer activity or restaurant suggestions. [3] It is a helper inside a plan you own.
Anywayr generates the whole plan up front from your group's inputs, which saves the blank-page step but means you will edit a draft instead of writing your own. Anywayr also has a connector that lets Claude, and ChatGPT in developer mode, plan trips and search hotels and flights using your Anywayr account. See https://anywayr.com/connectors.
Where Wanderlog is better
- Real-time shared editing. Wanderlog describes live collaboration on one itinerary, with edit and view permissions. We do not claim the same for Anywayr.
- Maps and routes. Every place is pinned on a map, routes connect the pins, and it shows times and distances between places. [2]
- Offline access. Wanderlog says plans are stored offline in the app and that you can download a plan to use without a connection. [2][4]
- Importing reservations. Forward confirmation emails or connect Gmail and the booking lands in your plan. [2]
- Phone apps. Wanderlog has iOS and Android apps. [1] Anywayr is a website that works on a phone.
- Track record. Wanderlog says it has 8M+ trips planned and a 4.9 App Store rating. [1][2] These are its own figures, and we are not making any comparable claim.
- Road trips. Its App Store listing says you can add unlimited stops for free, and it describes a route optimizer and estimated times and distances between places. [2]
Which should you pick?
- Your group has already picked a place and wants a shared map and one home for reservations: Wanderlog.
- You are starting from nothing and want a draft itinerary and stay options in minutes: Anywayr.
- You care most about offline use and a native app: Wanderlog.
- You want group votes on where to stay and cost tracking in the same place as the plan: Anywayr.
- Your group lives in a chat thread: try the Anywayr text assistant.
