How we picked these

Eat smart as a group
Navigating Tulum's dining scene with a group requires some strategy to ensure smooth experiences. For lunch and dinner, particularly with six or more people, making a reservation is highly recommended, especially at popular spots on Tulum Beach. Many restaurants can accommodate larger tables, but confirming availability and booking ahead will save time and potential disappointment. Additionally, consider restaurants that offer shared plates or family-style options, as these can simplify ordering and enhance the group dining experience. When it comes to settling the bill, it is always a good idea to clarify if a restaurant can split checks or prefers a single payment, which can then be easily divided among your group using payment apps.
Consider routing your meals by neighborhood to minimize travel time and maximize your experience. Tulum Centro offers a concentration of authentic, budget-friendly Mexican eateries, ideal for casual breakfasts or lunches. These spots often have a lively, local atmosphere. Tulum Beach, on the other hand, features more upscale, international, and healthy options, often with beachfront views, making it suitable for a more relaxed brunch or a special dinner. Pacing your meals with a mix of casual and more formal experiences ensures everyone in your group finds something they enjoy, from quick taco stops to leisurely dinners.

Booking tips for large tables
For groups of six or more, always call ahead to inquire about reservations, even for casual establishments. Some popular restaurants, particularly those on Tulum Beach with a price level of 3, may require a deposit to secure a large table, especially during busy periods. It is also common practice in Mexico for a service charge or gratuity to be automatically added to the bill for larger groups, typically ranging from 15-20%. Always review your bill carefully before paying.
