Mexico City offers a unique landscape for group lodging, blending historic charm with modern amenities. While Anywayr (formerly Travelry)'s data shows a median group size of two, this guide focuses on finding larger accommodations suitable for friends, families, or special events. Many properties, especially in popular areas like Roma Norte and Condesa, are designed to host multiple guests, often featuring spacious common areas, multiple bedrooms, and private outdoor spaces like rooftops or terraces. Walkability is a major advantage in these central neighborhoods, allowing groups to explore on foot and easily access dining and attractions. Parking can be challenging in dense areas, so consider ride-sharing or public transport for getting around.
What to look for in a group stay here
When selecting a group stay in Mexico City, consider the number of bedrooms and bathrooms to ensure comfort and privacy for everyone. For groups of 6-10, a 3-4 bedroom house or apartment is often sufficient, providing individual space while maintaining communal areas for gathering. Larger groups, exceeding 10 people, will benefit from properties with 5 or more bedrooms, like the 6-bedroom Artsy Roma Rooftop or the 8-bedroom house in Condesa, which can accommodate up to 18 guests. Prioritize properties with multiple bathrooms to streamline morning routines and avoid bottlenecks. Shared kitchen facilities are also a key feature, allowing groups to prepare meals together and save on dining out, especially beneficial for longer stays.
Beyond room count, consider amenities that enhance group experiences. Properties with private rooftops, balconies, or gardens offer excellent spaces for relaxation and socializing, such as the Penthouse with Rooftop and BBQ in La Condesa. A dedicated gym or entertainment area can also add value. Pay attention to the property's layout; multi-level homes can offer privacy for different sub-groups, while open-plan living areas foster connection. Be mindful of potential noise regulations, especially in residential buildings, if your group plans late-night activities.
Neighborhood choice significantly impacts your group's experience. Roma Norte and Condesa are top picks for their bohemian atmosphere, excellent dining, and walkability, ideal for groups interested in food, art, and relaxed strolls. Polanco offers a more luxurious and sophisticated vibe, with high-end restaurants like Pujol and Quintonil, and luxury shopping. For history and cultural immersion, Centro Histórico provides central access to museums and architectural wonders. Coyoacán offers a traditional, artistic experience, though it is a bit further from the city center. Anywayr advises avoiding areas like Tepito, Doctores, and Iztapalapa due to safety concerns and limited tourist appeal.

Booking tips for larger groups
Booking a group stay requires careful planning. Expect larger deposits and consider cancellation policies carefully, especially when traveling during popular months like March and May. Many properties on platforms like VRBO require a security deposit, so understand the terms upfront to avoid surprises. For managing costs, designate a group leader to handle payments or use shared payment applications to split expenses efficiently among group members. Booking well in advance, particularly for larger properties, will provide more options and potentially better rates, securing the ideal spot for your Mexico City group adventure.
