Connect Anywayr to Claude Code, VS Code and Codex CLI

Developer tools can use Anywayr too, which is handy if you would rather plan a trip from the terminal or your editor. Claude Code and Codex CLI each take one command, and VS Code takes one entry in mcp.json. All three sign in through your browser.

Add the server to your tool

Claude Code

  1. Run this in your terminal.

    claude mcp add --transport http anywayr https://anywayr.com/mcp

  2. Start Claude Code and type /mcp, then choose Anywayr to sign in.

  3. Your browser opens Anywayr. Approve what Claude Code may do and come back to the terminal.

VS Code (GitHub Copilot agent mode)

  1. Add this entry to your mcp.json, either for the workspace or for your user profile.

  2. VS Code shows a Start action on the server entry. Choose it and sign in to Anywayr when your browser opens.

  3. Open Copilot Chat in agent mode and check that Anywayr's tools are listed.

OpenAI Codex CLI

  1. Add the server.

  2. Sign in.

  3. Approve what Codex may do on the Anywayr screen that opens in your browser.

Plan and account notes

  • None of the three needs a special plan for Anywayr, but VS Code agent mode needs a GitHub Copilot subscription and Codex needs an OpenAI sign-in.
  • Access tokens on Anywayr last ten minutes. Apps that ask for offline access keep the connection renewing, so you should not need to sign in for every session.

What it looks like in a developer tool

  • These tools generally ask before running an MCP tool, and let you allow it for the session.
  • Results come back as plain text or tables in the terminal or the chat panel, with prices in US dollars.
  • You can mix trip planning with your work. For example, ask the agent to put the conference dates into a search without leaving your editor.

Booking in Claude Code, VS Code and Codex CLI

By default these tools give you a link to Anywayr's checkout page. In VS Code and Codex CLI you can also allow "book with your saved card in the conversation" on the connect screen. It is unticked by default, it only works for fully refundable bookings, and only within a booking limit you set on your Anywayr profile. Everything else comes back to you on Anywayr.

Claude Code, VS Code and Codex CLI questions

Does Claude Code need a different address from Claude?
No. Every app uses https://anywayr.com/mcp. Only the way you add it differs.
Where does VS Code keep my sign-in?
You can remove the server from the MCP server list in VS Code at any time. Also disconnect the app in Connected apps on your Anywayr profile so its access ends on our side.
How do I sign out of Codex CLI?
Remove the server with codex mcp remove anywayr, then disconnect the app in Connected apps on your Anywayr profile.
Is there a keyless or scripted way to call the server?
No. Every call is made as a signed-in Anywayr account. See the technical reference for how sign-in works.
